PRE-CANDIDATE INFORMATION SESSIONS AHEAD OF UPCOMING ELECTIONS

Dubbo Regional Council will host several pre-candidate sessions ahead of the upcoming 2024 Local Government Elections to assist potential nominees.

The first session will be hosted by the Women for Election Organisation on Saturday 4 May at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.

The Women for Election event featuring Dominic Passmore and Melanie McDonell will be held from 9:30am to 4pm for all women who see themselves as future political leaders.

“These sessions are important for women interested in running for local government during the elections later this year,” Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said.

The Women in Election events were well received last time they were run in Dubbo as they focus on their audience and what they may need to know ahead of entering politics.”

Closer to the election three more sessions will be held, with a candidate briefing session with Peter Tegart from Local Government NSW to be held at the end of the month and information sessions in both Wellington and Dubbo in June.

“The candidate briefing session with Mr Tegart gives interested candidates important information to allow them to understand the role of the councillor and how it fits in with other roles and levels of government,” Clr Dickerson said.

“I encourage anyone interested in nominating for Council to come along to one of these sessions ahead of 5 August when nominations open for all candidates.”

Information sessions will also be held in Wellington and Dubbo with Dubbo Regional Council’s CEO and Governance Team on hand to answer questions and highlight the support and expectations for those considering running for election.

The NSW Electoral Commission will open for candidates at 8am on Monday 5 August.

The ballot paper draw will be conducted on 15 August at 2pm.

The Local Government Elections in NSW will be held on Saturday 14 September, 2024.
