Sister cities

Dubbo City Council’s Sister City alliances provide Dubbo with opportunities to share information and learn more about other cultures.

Sister City relations bring excellent mutual benefits in the areas of trade, tourism and cultural exchange.  On a global level, the Sister City program is generally recognised as an important means to build international goodwill and to further global social and economic development based on co-operation at the local level.

Dubbo currently has formal Sister City arrangements with two international cities and two Australian cities. The following is a short introduction on each of these sister cities and, where available, links to their web sites.

Minokamo, Japan

A Sister City relationship was established with Minokamo in June, 1989. Dubbo and Minokamo have strongly bonded since this time with numerous exchange visits undertaken.

Council’s relationship with Minokamo resulted in financial support and assistance in the establishment of the Shoyoen Sister City Japanese Garden at the Dubbo Botanic Gardens, Elizabeth Park.

On 2 June 2014, Dubbo will celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Sister City relations with Minokamo by hosting the Japanese Consul General Sydney and delegates from Minokamo City Hall and the Minokamo International Exchange Association. Find out more about the celebrations.
