Waste to Art

2013 Dubbo Waste to Art Competition

The annual community based art competition encourages people to look at new a creative ways to reuse resources that would normally be thrown away. The Waste to Art competition is open to everyone of all skill levels.

Entries Close - 1 October 2013

Delivery of Works - 11 October 2013 between 10 am - 4 pm

Official Opening - Saturday 19 October 2013 - 2 pm

Collection of Artworks - 25 to 30 November 2013

Categories

Entries will be accepted from individuals or groups in each of the following categories:

Primary School

  • 2 Dimensional - Poster/Painting/Collage/Drawing  
  • 3 Dimensional - Sculpture/Installation/Video/Soundscape  
  • Functional – furniture, craftworks or wearable items made from recycled materials

Secondary School

  • 2 Dimensional – Poster/Painting/Collage/Drawing
  • 3 Dimensional – Sculpture/Installation/Video/Soundscape
  • Functional – furniture, craftworks or wearable items made from recycled materials

Community (groups or individuals; no professional artists)

  • 2 Dimensional – Poster/Painting/Collage/Drawing
  • 3 Dimensional – Sculpture/Installation/Video/Soundscape
  • Functional – furniture, craftworks or wearable items made from recycled materials

Open (community and professional artists)

  • 2 Dimensional – Poster/Painting/Collage/Drawing

Information for entrants:

Download a copy of the 2013 Dubbo Waste to Art Entry Form or pick up an Entry Form from Council’s Civic Administration Building, the Macquarie Regional Library, or the Western Plains Exhibiton. Entries close on 1 October 2013. Completed Entry Forms can be dropped off to reception of Western Plains Cultural Centre, PO Box 81, Dubbo or Amy McIntyre, 73 Church Street, Dubbo. Artworks are to be delivered to Western Plains Cultural Centre between 10 am and 4 pm on Friday, 11 October 2013 and are to be collected between 10 am and 4 pm on Monday, 25 November 2013.

Judging

The judging criteria includes:

  • Concept – mark out of 3
  • Quality/standard – mark out of 3
  • Recycling - mark out of 4.

Terms & Conditions

The Waste To Art and design Community Art Exhibition and Competition is open to all community members, artists and schools who currently reside in the NetWaste region.

  • All artwork in each category must demonstrate the re-use and recycling of waste.
  • Entrants will be notified of competition results by mail/telephone.
  • The results of the competition will be announced to local media.
  • All entrants grant permission to the organisers to publish &/or broadcast the names and photographs of the finalists and the winners through print and electronic media.
  • Judges and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.

All artwork must:

  • Include a brief description of your composition, the materials and inspiration of your artwork. Preferably this should be emailed to the Dubbo Waste To Art Coordinator, waste2art@gmail.com, at your  local council, otherwise include your description with your entry form (Maximum of half A4 page).
  • Be safe for public exhibition.
  • Be appropriately packaged for delivery and storage.
  • Not exceed a size limit: 2 dimensional – 2 x 2 metres & 3 dimensional – 2 x 2 x 2 metres.
  • Not exceed a weight limit of 40kgs.

All artwork must be delivered to the Western Plains Cultural Centre and collected once the exhibition has ended.

The cost and means of transport to the local exhibition are the responsibility of the entrant.

The organisers will take all reasonable care in handling and dealing with works submitted, however the organisers will not be responsible for any loss or damage incurred to any of the artworks or materials.

Artworks & copyright remain the property of the entrant.
