Dubbo City Council will begin footpath repairs in the central business district (CBD) from the Monday, 30 July 2012 as part of major works to improve the area.
The work involves trip hazard removal and streetscape improvement and will be conducted intermittently on both sides of Macquarie Street, starting at the corner of Macquarie and Bultje streets on 30 July and concluding at the corner of Macquarie and Talbragar streets in December 2012.
Council's Director Technical Services Stewart McLeod said the work was identified in the Dubbo 2036 Four-Year Delivery Program and it signalled the start of a major rejuvenation of the CBD.
"The Dubbo 2036 Community Strategic Plan identified the need to revitalise the CBD streetscape and improve pedestrian and traffic facilities," Mr McLeod said.
"These initial footpath repairs will form part major works involving traffic and streetscape upgrades within Macquarie, Talbragar, Brisbane and Darling streets."
Mr McLeod said the footpath repairs would result in minimal parking and pedestrian disruptions.
"Council staff will be speaking with businesses in the area and can advise that shopfront access in Macquarie Street will not be affected by the works," he said.
