Recreation and Open Space Watering
Dubbo Regional Council has thoroughly considered Recreation and Open Space assets, in the context of current drought conditions. The Plan of Management for Community Land has informed this process.
Council is focused on saving water during this unprecedented drought. However, recreational spaces also play a critical role within the broader community, for social engagement, general health and wellbeing, as well as physical exercise. Council has prioritised select spaces across the local government area, where irrigation will be maintained, providing refuge during heat, enabling social interaction amongst residents and community groups; as well as creating leisure opportunities.
Council has determined which open space assets and sporting facilities will be watered at differing water restriction levels, with consideration for the following:
- Profile and prominence of amenity, within the community
- Frequency of community use
- Form and function of the open space
- Primary water source, or access to alternative non-potable water source where possible
