As a result of the ‘Destination Dubbo: International Ready’ project, Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) will be constructing the Wiradjuri Tourism Centre.

This facility will have a focus on presenting an educative and immersive experience of Wiradjuri Culture; including historical and contemporary exhibitions, events, education programs, artist residences and performances. The facility will also be home to a commercial gallery, shop and café.

To develop and action these initiatives, DRC is offering a full time permanent career opportunity to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as an Aboriginal Cultural Development Officer.

“We are excited to offer the opportunity to a suitable candidate, empowering them to assist in the development and implementation of Aboriginal Cultural Programs at the Wiradjuri Tourism Centre, and across the Local Government Area.” said DRC’s Manager Regional Events, Jamie Angus. “This role will work under the leadership of Council’s Cultural Development Coordinator to collaborate with local artists and cultural practitioners; to develop new work and commissions; and provide research and advice to stakeholders on exhibitions and cultural content.”

The position has been newly created, as identified in the restructure of Dubbo Regional Council in June 2022, and has been determined to be suitable for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person due to the nature of the role. Council considers being Aboriginal is a genuine occupational qualification under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

“This new role is a great addition to our team to drive Wiradjuri tourism experiences around the Region” said DRC’s Cultural Development Coordinator, Jessica Moore. “I urge anyone who is interested or passionate about the opportunity to contact me with any questions they might have prior to the application period closing.”

Applications for the position close at 9am on Monday 12 December. A list of eligibility criteria, a position description, contact details, and an online application form are available now at
