VALE – ARTHUR MORTIMER

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) would like to express sympathies to the family of former Councillor and Mayor Mr Arthur Mortimer. Mr Mortimer passed away following a battle with cancer on Saturday 9 April 2022. Mr Mortimer served multiple terms on Council from 1983-1987 and then from 1991-2004, including a year as Mayor from 1986-1987.

Many former councillors have shared fond memories of their time working with Mr Mortimer. Arthur Mortimer was instrumental in persuading Council to retain all of the “kidney blocks” in Council’s Dulhunty subdivision for the RSL Club to allow the progressive development of Orana Gardens. The RSL were able to construct the first 12 units in late 1980s with Mr Mortimer executing the design work as a qualified draughtsman. The Orana Gardens development is now a dynamic service provider for our region.

Mayor of Dubbo Regional Council Mathew Dickerson said Mr Mortimer brought a lot of expertise to his role as a Councillor. “As a draughtsman, Mr Mortimer brought considerable skills and a planning perspective to his role as a Councillor, he also made considerable contributions to Dubbo in his work life - such as the integrated planning layout for Orana Gardens. Mr Mortimer was also very involved in the Dubbo community as a volunteer and spent a lot of his time with the Dubbo Kart Club.

“Mr Mortimer was a very valuable member of Council, I’d like to thank him for his contributions to our community and on behalf of the current Council I send our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this sad time,” said Mr Dickerson.
