Council welcomes Budget announcements for the region

Western Plains Regional Council Administrator, Michael Kneipp, has welcomed funding injected across the region in the State Government budget announcements on Tuesday, which will benefit key services.

“The funding will make a positive difference to the lives of people in communities throughout the LGA,” Mr Kneipp said.

“Dubbo Base hospital is to receive $25 million, meaning Stage 3 and 4 of the redevelopment will continue seamlessly, which will be of enormous benefit across the region both socially and economically,” he said.

“It was equally pleasing to see the region receive a much welcomed roads funding boost through the Fixing Country Roads Program with $3 Million allocated to upgrade the intersection of Blackbutt road and the Newell Highway south of Dubbo,” he said.
“Kintyre is a growing residential area and making safety improvements was voiced as a priority by the community,”

“Wellington will also receive $1.6million for road and infrastructure upgrades which will assist in addressing the existing roads maintenance backlog and help move toward a local road network that is effective and efficient,” he said.
“In other good news for the regional economy, Taronga Western Plains Zoo has been allocated $8.4 million for upgrades,”

Other budget implications for Local Government include $45 million for the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewage Program, $2.5 million for the Container Deposit Scheme and $23 million for community building partnerships to provide improved community infrastructure projects.

“The Government has also kept its funding commitments to amalgamated councils and future Joint Organisations of councils, which would go part of the way to meet the costs imposed through this process,” Mr Kneipp said.

“While there are still some gaps, overall the region has benefitted from the State Government Budget announcements and I look forward to seeing the region continue to prosper in the future,”
