Dubbo branch library gets ready for facelift

The Dubbo Branch of the Macquarie Regional Library will undergo a major refurbishment over the next three months creating a fresh new look for the library.

Director of Macquarie Regional Library, John Bayliss said the refurbishment will be welcomed by members and library visitors.

“The renovation plans include a revised layout of the collections, a new Local Studies Collection Room and small meeting /study rooms to create a new contemporary look for the library,” Mr Bayliss said.

“It has been planned to make it easier for members to find the books and resources they want and more inviting for people to come into the library to conduct research, to study or for small community groups to meet.”

As well as changes to the library’s layout the entire ceiling will be replaced, new carpet laid and a fresh coat of paint.

Mr Bayliss said the front entrance will also be revamped making it easier and safer for people visiting the library.

“We will be removing the stairs at the entrance and creating a single ramp entrance,” Mr Bayliss said.

“This will improve access for wheelchairs and people who use walking aids as well as creating a more defined entrance that suits the streetscape.”

During the renovations the library will operate from temporary premises between Brennan’s Mitre 10 and Uncle Pete’s Toys in Macquarie Street.

Mr Bayliss said all the usual services and events will be conducted at the temporary location.

“The collection is being moved so that visitors can still browse the shelves for books to borrow and popular events such as weekly story time sessions and school holiday activities will continue as normal,” Mr Bayliss said.

“The public computers will also be set up with internet access and available for use as will be community meeting rooms.

“Essentially, it will be business as usual in the temporary premises.”

The Dubbo branch library will be closed from Monday 14 March and will reopen in its temporary location on Tuesday 29 March.
