Dubbo Regional Council welcomes funding for roads

Dubbo Regional Council has welcomed the announcement of $500,000 in immediate funding relief for local roads as part of Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.

Dubbo Regional Council was one of 16 councils which will receive the funding from the NSW Government.

“Council is responding to an extensive road repairs program which is going to take a number of years to complete,” Council’s Director Technical Services Stewart McLeod said.

“This funding will go towards doing obvious road works but Council is still required to undertake a process of assessment and validation for all road works and repairs.”

“The damage that has been done by the recent rainfall and flooding is still being identified on some roads and with harvest starting soon, and the movement of heavy vehicles on the road in relation to that, more damage can be expected.”

“We ask that road users remain cautious and patient when driving.”

“Drivers also need to be aware that with road closures and detours in place there may be more trucks and heavy vehicles on the roads they use.”

Mr McLeod said with the drop in the river height Council was also working on reopening the bridges and cycleways which had been closed.
