Theatre manager receives Local Government Award

Manager of the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre Linda Christof has received a Highly Commended Award in the 2016 NSW Women in Local Government Awards Ceremony conducted at Parliament House on 2 March 2016.

The annual Awards recognise excellence and outstanding achievement by women in local government in New South Wales and were presented by the Minister for Local Government, the Hon. Paul Toole MP and the Minister for Women, The Hon. Pru Goward MP.

Dubbo City Council Director of Community Services, David Dwyer congratulated Ms Christof on receiving the accolade which recognises her successful career with Dubbo City Council which she started as administrative assistant at the Dubbo Regional Gallery in 2000.

“Linda Christof has made an outstanding contribution to Dubbo City Council and has been promoted to Centre Coordinator at the Western Plains Cultural Centre before moving to the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre first as the Centre Coordinator and then to her current position as Manager.”

During her career with Dubbo City Council Ms Christof has undertaken extensive study including completing a Master’s Degree in Business Administration; public speaking courses through the Australian Institute of Management; Theatre industry training through NIDA; and Certificate IV in Education and Training at TAFE.

Ms Christof said she was pleasantly surprised to receive the award.

“There are some great roles for women in Local Government and many opportunities to develop a successful career,” Ms Christof said.

“Through continually upgrading my education and training I have been able to take on new roles and develop my career. I have had the opportunity to follow my passion for the arts as well as progress to a management role.

“The month of March has some significant and opportunities for women to celebrate and share information,” Ms Christof said. “We have already had the All About Women Satellite Event and International Women’s Day and the Women Out West 21st Birthday Celebrations is coming up.” 

“I would like to encourage young women who may be just starting out in their career to take every opportunity for further training, connect with like-minded women through the various networks in Dubbo and the region and seek out a dynamic mentor.” Ms Christof said.
