Teaching Learner drivers to be safe drivers
A free workshop for parents and supervisors of learner drivers is being held by Dubbo Regional Council in conjunction with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).
The workshop will be held in the Central Conference Room, Dubbo Regional Council, Darling Street, Dubbo on Tuesday 22 November 2016 from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
The two hour workshop, Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers, will offer parents and supervisors hands-on advice on how to provide the most effective driving practice for learner drivers.
“Parents and supervisors of novice drivers have a crucial role to play in making our roads safer, and that is why the RMS has developed a course to better support them.” Dubbo Regional Council’s Road Safety Officer, Jayne Bleechmore said.
The course will cover topics such as:
• Supervising learner drivers
• Completing the Learner Driver Log Book
• The benefits of supervised on-road driving practice
• Licence conditions for learners and provisional licence holders
• Low risk driving strategies and hazards perception
• The New Safe Drivers Course
“Parents and supervisors who have attended this course found it to have boosted their confidence, helped them better plan driving sessions and allowed them to share experiences with other parents and supervisors,” Ms Bleechmore said.
“The course reinforces the important role of families in providing on-going support for young drivers in the early years of driving and despite the workshop being aimed at supervisors, learner drivers are most welcome to attend also. Learner drivers who have attended previous workshops commented on how much they had benefitted from attending a workshop.”
Bookings for the ‘Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers’ workshop are essential and can be made by calling Dubbo Regional Council’s Road Safety Officer on (02) 6801 4000.
