Wheelers Lane open to traffic in both directions

Western Plains Regional Council is pleased to announce that two way traffic will be restored on Wheelers Lane by 11am on Saturday, 18 June 2016.

Council’s Operations Engineer Robert Flakelar said that by utilising outside lanes, one lane of traffic will be open in each direction while construction work continues.

“This next stage will include the construction of centre medians and related infrastructure and will continue until late August,” Mr Flakelar said.

“Pedestrian access will be retained for the remainder of the project with the pedestrian maze at the level crossing itself, now fully operational.

“The original construction schedule was altered after significant community concerns were brought to Council’s attention, and it is pleasing for all involved that the amended schedule has run on time and the road was re-opened to traffic after only a six week full closure."

The upgrade includes road-widening, new concrete footpaths, an on road cycleway, centre medians and street lighting improvements.

“This is a priority section of Dubbo’s road infrastructure and the widening of Wheelers Lane and upgrading of the level crossing between Birch Avenue and Douglas Mawson Road will create a four lane divided carriageway over the crossing,

“This will improve traffic flow at the crossing creating a continuous four lane road linking the Mitchell Highway (Cobra Street) and the Golden Highway (Cobbora Road)."
