Open day to celebrate Lunar Park redevelopment
The redevelopment of Lunar Park is complete and ready for play with an open day to be held later this month.
“The redevelopment involved the replacement of the playground equipment but also included the creation of a community meeting place, replacement of the shade sail, installation of a new bubbler and solar lights, planting of trees and remarking the basketball court,” Dubbo Regional Council Manager Horticultural Services Ben Pilon said.
“A lot of work has gone into the renewal and the park is looking great. These results couldn’t have been achieved without the input of the community.”
“A campaign was run to get feedback from the community on what they wanted at Lunar Park including an online survey and paper-based survey run in the schools in the surrounding area as well as Apollo House.”
“For the redevelopment Council was successful in gaining funding as part of the Social Housing Community Improvement Fund which Council matched giving an overall funding total of $100,000 for the project.”
“The open day will be held on Monday 29 May from 3.30pm to 5pm and will include a footy fun clinic, handball, basketball and a sausage sizzle.”
“A big thanks must go to Apollo House and the team for their efforts during this project, they put a massive effort into engaging the youth and community of Apollo estate and are assisting in the Open Day.
“Also thanks go to Lisa Orth from Artseeds who assisted in developing the artwork on the basketball hoop backboards at Lunar Park. Lisa worked with the youth from Apollo House in creating amazing art for the worn out old backboard.”
“The open day will be the perfect opportunity to show the entire community what can be achieved when Council and the community work in collaboration.”
