The planned delivery of smart water meters on every property connected to reticulated water in the Dubbo region will soon become reality, with Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) today announcing the successful contractor.

The golf course at the Dubbo Golf Club is set for some of the biggest names in women’s golf, for the NSW Women’s Golf Open on the 27 February – 1 March 2020. The event, which is one of only two in Australia for the European Qualifiers, is expected to draw thousands of people.

Dubbo Regional Council is urging residents in Dubbo, Wellington and Geurie to take extra water-saving steps after weekend rain and dust storms increased turbidity in the Macquarie River. Manager water supply and sewerage Stephen Carter said turbidity had increased treatment process times and residents might experience low water pressure for some days.

He is Wellington’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2020.

After an extensive procurement process, a successful supplier has been engaged to undertake drilling and exploration services to locate new water sources for Wellington in response to the worsening drought situation currently gripping the region and NSW. Wellington currently draws all of its water from the river. A ground water licence exists for Wellington but the town does not have a usable bore for potable (drinking) water. The test drilling currently underway is critical in the hunt for an adequate bore water supply as close as possible to the water treatment plant.
