Council will ensure a community celebration continues
Following the announcement made by Dubbo Fireworks Committee that it will not continue, Mayor of the Dubbo Region Councillor Ben Shields would like to extend his appreciation to the committee, and all stakeholders involved for their hard work over the last five (5) years.
“The committee should be congratulated on their initiative and enthusiasm to start and run such a successful event not just for Dubbo but the whole region,” Clr Shields said.
The Mayor said that it was great to watch the event develop over the past five years, from the first conversations and meetings facilitated through Council’s Event Network in 2013 – resulting in the first committee and event in 2014.
“Council has been proud to support this event from its inception, through development of plans, regulatory advice, insurances and promotion along with support provided through Council’s Event Support and Development Program including $13,000 over the last three (3) years.
“The community has demonstrated support and a partnership approach to this event and that was key to Council providing its support. I’d like to assure the community that Dubbo Regional Council will now explore options for a New Year’s Eve celebration.
“Such a celebration is important to deliver social and economic benefits for our region.
“Events at this scale do require significant resources, planning and risk management. The volunteer committee has done a great job in establishing this event but there may now be opportunity for new partnerships and new ideas to deliver this special celebration for the region,” Clr Shields said.
Dubbo Regional Council will make further announcements in relation to an event throughout the year.
