Mayor welcomes Hospital car park commitment

Mayor of the Dubbo Region Ben Shields has welcomed a commitment by Nationals candidate for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders to build a $30 million car park for Dubbo Hospital if elected.

The car park, which would add more than 350 car spaces, would be a significant boost to the number of parks on hospital grounds and would be a welcome relief to patients and families who currently struggle to get a park close to the hospital.

“I would like to congratulate the NSW Nationals and Dugald Saunders for listening to the concerns of the community and Council,” Councillor Shields said.

“The lack of parking had been an increasing problem. The redevelopment of the hospital has expanded services but parking hadn’t increased to meet that demand.

“That community concern was what caused Dubbo Regional Council to step in and offer assistance and lobby for more parking. I am glad the Nationals have listened.

“It shows what can be achieved when a community speaks out.”

Councillor Shields said a commitment by both the Liberals and Labor to build a $30 million multi-storey car park at Wagga in October last year set the benchmark.

“At the time I said it was only fair that Dubbo get the same, and to the credit of the Nationals, they have followed through,” he said.

“There are few things more important than health services to a city so this is a very welcome commitment from the NSW Nationals and Dugald Saunders.”
