Dubbo Regional Council’s Western Plains Cultural Centre (WPCC) is pleased to present a survey of significant works by Melbourne-based artist Arlo Mountford. On exhibition from 8 February – 19 April, Arlo Mountford’s large scale video installations, kinetic sculptures and animations take a wry look at the artistic canon, throwing light on visual art’s ongoing meaning and relevance in contemporary society.

Staff at Dubbo Regional Council’s Old Dubbo Gaol have been secretly preparing for a very secretive event – and you’re invited to attend. Prohibition at the Yard is the Gaol’s own interpretation of Australia’s crackdown and regulation of alcohol consumption in the 19th and 20th centuries. Come find the secret bars and hideaways within the walls of the Old Dubbo Gaol, while dressed in your best 1920s costume. The Gaol’s Operations Coordinator Julie Webster says staff are ready for what’s expected to be a big night of fun and frivolity on 29 February.

Residents who have bought a pool cover, installed a dual flush toilet, or installed a rain water tank after 1 November 2019 could now be eligible for rebates, under Dubbo Regional Council’s Water Saving Rebate (WSR) Scheme. The rebates are already available for 3-star or higher WELS water shower heads and irrigation timers, of up to 50% of the purchase price.

Dubbo Regional Council is urging residents in Dubbo, Wellington and Geurie to take extra water-saving steps after weekend rain and dust storms increased turbidity in the Macquarie River. Manager water supply and sewerage Stephen Carter said turbidity had increased treatment process times and residents might experience low water pressure for some days.

Dubbo Regional Council is saddened to see a drop in visitation to Visitor Information Centres by about 20% during the month of December 2019, when compared to the same period in 2018. With the impact of drought and perceptions from potential visitors that the region is running out of water, tourism is also taking a huge hit.
