About 'Destination Dubbo: International Ready'

Summary: The Dubbo Region is positioning itself to become the number one inland visitor destination in NSW and Australia, both for Australian families and international visitors to NSW. The Destination Dubbo - International Ready project will be the catalyst to achieve this goal.

Dubbo Regional Council, through the ‘Destination Dubbo – International Ready’ project, will capitalise on Dubbo’s natural, cultural and heritage endowments to develop three additional cultural tourism products to support the Taronga Western Plains Zoo in showcasing Dubbo to the rest of Australia and the world.

The reclamation and development of a public heritage plaza at Old Dubbo Gaol, Dubbo’s second most popular attraction, the construction of a Wiradjuri Tourism Centre and Park and the activation of the Macquarie Foreshore as a cultural events precinct in Dubbo’s CBD will create a year-round destination for visitation based on an improved and culturally-rewarding visitor experience.

Each project has been informed and refined through broad and targeted community and industry consultation. Local, regional and national specialist contractors have been engaged to provide services.

Budget: Destination Dubbo – International Ready has secured the accumulative funds of $13,583,760.

Funding: Funding for ‘Destination Dubbo – International Ready’ has been secured through Restart NSW ($10,147,000) with a co-contribution from Dubbo Regional Council ($2,536,760) along with the NSW Stronger Communities Fund ($900,000).

Timeline: The Destination Dubbo project aligns with the requirements of the NSW Restart Fund and, in turn, the Regional Growth: Environment and Tourism Fund timelines. All three projects are estimated to be completed by April 2023.
