Council's Resource Recovery Education Officer engages with the community through programs, partnerships and events to influence positive reuse, recycling and waste reduction behaviours.
Educational material, programs and services are provided to schools, businesses and community groups to encourage and support sustainable change.

WASTE AUDIT AND ACTION PLAN GUIDE
Council’s Resource Recovery Education Officer can assist with provision of resources for school based waste audits and action plans to assist your school and students in reducing waste to landfill, reducing waste costs, and becoming a more sustainable school.

To assist with conducting audits at your school, Council offers the option to borrow an auditing kit which contains equipment required to conduct an audit.

PRIMARY SCHOOL PROGRAM
Dubbo Regional Council provides engaging syllabus linked sustainability workshops tailored for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
These workshops are delivered as an incursion at no cost to schools and provide the opportunity for students to foster care for the environment and learn about sustainably managing our resources, connecting content to real world experiences outside of the classroom.
Sessions offered include Fight Against Food Waste, Recycle Right Together and The Litter Problem.
This program is offered throughout Terms 3 and 4. Registration for the program is open now until Thursday 28 March 2024.

ACTIVITY SHEETS
Dubbo Regional Council, Narromine Shire Council and Mid-Western Regional Council have provided fun and engaging waste education activity sheets, with helpful information about items that belong and don’t belong in recycling and organics bins.

WASTE EDUCATION FOR CHARITY SHOPS
Dubbo Regional Council aims to provide and support a range of waste education opportunities for charity shops. Educational material, programs and services are available to encourage and support sustainable change.
TEXTILE RECYCLING
Dubbo Regional Council offers opportunity shops and residents a free textile recycling service. Items that cannot be sold in store can be disposed of at Whylandra Waste and Recycling Centre, where they are bagged and sent for recycling. Quantities larger than 20kgs are accepted, but we request that you contact Whylandra Waste and Recycling Centre to arrange a suitable time for drop off on 02 6801 4900 for larger quantities.
WASTE AUDIT AND ACTION PLAN GUIDE
Council’s Resource Recovery Education Officer can assist with provision of resources for waste audits and action plans to assist your charity shop in reducing waste to landfill, reducing waste costs, and decreasing the burden waste places on your organisation.
Some of the ways we can support you in reducing waste going to landfill includes a waste audit and action plan guide, directing you to waste relating signage for your store, and collating a lost of recycling organisations to direct your customers to take problem wastes you cannot accept in store.

Dubbo Regional Council has partnered with Love Food Hate Waste aiming to reduce food waste across our region. The Your Business is Food Program provides food businesses with information, advice and resources to help reduce food waste and potentially save your business money. AVAILABLE KERBSIDE WASTE SERVICES
Council have kerbside waste services available for commercial (non-domestic) waste needs.
Kerbside organics (FOGO) and recycling services are less expensive than general waste (landfill) services. Over half the items in the average red bin could be rescued and recycled, or composted through FOGO.
By signing up for Council’s FOGO and recycling services you can:
- Save money in comparison to landfill costs
- Help to save water, energy, and resources by diverting more from landfill
- Reduce your business emissions
- Customers are caring more and more about sustainability, changing your waste system can be good for your business reputation

SECONDBITE
Food waste and food insecurity in Australia are complex intertwined issues. Many people across the Central West and Western Region live below the poverty line and go without food often; while large volumes of food are wasted at the household, producer and retail scales.
Supported by Federal, State and Local government SecondBite is a charity food rescue agency that works across Australia to rescue food and redistribute to the people who need it.
