GET INVOLVED IN THE MURAL PROJECT AT WPCC

Western Plains Cultural Centre is launching a new self-portrait mural project that will come to life on a wall of the Community Arts Centre.

The mural will be designed and painted by artist Jeff McCann and the youth of Dubbo through a series of creative workshops in collaboration with Headspace Dubbo.

Jeff McCann is an artist, illustrator and maker who is originally from Dubbo but now lives and works in Sydney. Jeff has worked with several Councils and regularly co-designs public art projects with youth and adults from start to finish.

The mural aims to depict a living portrait of Dubbo’s young people and will take inspiration from the self-portraits submitted with the theme - If your story could be told in colour, shape, or symbol - what would it look like?

Mr McCann said he would really like the community to be involved in the mural project by creating a self-portrait and submitting it for the opportunity to be included in the final design.

“The mural will celebrate and showcase the young people of the region - not just where you come from, but what you care about, what you dream of, and how you see the world.”

Dubbo Regional Council Cultural Development Coordinator, Rebecca Walker said the final mural would be on the wall for years to come.

“This is a great opportunity for young people in our community to contribute to a large-scale work of art.

“Self-portraits can be your face smiling or a full body drawing of you doing your favourite activity. You could be wearing your favourite t-shirt, earrings, dress, cap or costume.”
