VIRTUAL WUJIANG EXPERIENCE MARKS SISTER CITY ANNIVERSARY

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) is celebrating 30 years of Sister City relations with Wujiang, China with an online short film experience.

Students from Wujiang submitted short videos showcasing interesting and culturally significant aspects of their region, including their thousand-year-old silk industry.

The videos have been made available on Council’s website for residents to enjoy.

DRC Mayor Josh Black said the films offer an interesting glimpse into Dubbo’s Sister City.

“The short films showcase the interesting and vibrant culture that Wujiang enjoys, and I’d encourage all residents to give them a watch.

“The students have done a fantastic job representing their region.

“The films also coincide with a visit from a Wujiang delegation, who will be visiting our region at the end of November to mark our 30-year relationship,” Clr Black said.

Sister Cities Officer Daisy Wang said Sister City relationships offer a range of benefits to communities.

“Sister City programs are recognised as an important means to build international goodwill and to further global social and economic development based on co-operation at the local level,” Ms Wang said.

Dubbo also has a longstanding Sister City relationship with Minokamo, Japan. The annual student exchange program with Minokamo will occur again in 2026, and Dubbo Region students who want to be involved in the exchange are encouraged to come along to the early information session on Monday 1 December 2025 at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.
