Hospital Carpark a Great Result For Dubbo Says Mayor
Mayor of the Dubbo Region Ben Shields has welcomed confirmation from Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders and NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard that Dubbo Hospital will receive 350 additional car parks.
Mr Saunders and Minister Hazzard announced on Thursday that construction of the $30 million two-storey carpark would begin next year. Councillor Shields said the announcement provided the community with certainty and was a great result for Dubbo and the wider region.
“There is no doubt the redevelopment of Dubbo Hospital has given our region better access to a range of health services and when this carpark is constructed, it will make it much easier for residents to access these services,” Councillor Shields said.
“I would like to congratulate Mr Saunders for delivering on his promise and I look forward to seeing the carpark open to the public. The need for such an expansion across the precinct simply reflects the sheer size of the geographical footprint the hospital services, and its critical role in primary healthcare. It further demonstrates why Dubbo is so important as a regional medical and trauma centre – and home for so many specialised healthcare workers and medical professionals.”
Councillor Shields said providing top-level healthcare was an important part of closing the gap between people living in regional and metropolitan Australia.
“It is great to see more money being delivered to the Dubbo region. I hope to see more coming our way in the upcoming NSW Budget including the funding for construction and ongoing operating costs of a Dubbo Alcohol and Other Drug Rehabilitation Centre,” Councillor Shields said.
