Draft 2040 Community Strategic Plan taking shape
Dubbo Regional Council has produced a short video, available on the Council website, to help explain the process of preparing the draft 2040 Community Strategic Plan for the Dubbo Regional Local Government Area.
Director Planning and Environment Melissa Watkins said the video shows the importance of the new draft 2040 Community Strategic Plan, the significant role the community has in guiding Council’s activities and actions and how the Plan provides the strategic direction for Council.
“The extensive consultation undertaken to gather ideas and priorities from the community about the long-term vision for the region was a critical phase for the development of the new 2040 Plan,” Ms Watkins said.
“More than 700 surveys were completed and 35 written submissions received during the community engagement which included twenty separate workshops. Hundreds of ideas were raised such as improvement in telecommunications, road infrastructure, waste and recycling, marketing and promotion of the villages, 24-hour policing in Wellington, enhancing the use of the Macquarie River and enabling business development across the region,” Ms Watkins said.
The process of sorting and prioritising the ideas provided by the community is now well underway with Council staff reviewing and categorising the initiatives and priorities in the themes of liveability, economy, infrastructure, housing and community leadership. This review will also examine the likely entity or group responsible which may include Council, state and federal government, the community or other groups.
“Council staff will continue to develop the new draft 2040 Community Strategic Plan with the new Council over the coming months,” Ms Watkins said.
Council is required to adopt the new 2040 Community Strategic Plan and a range of subsidiary plans under the Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework by June 2018.
After preparing the initial draft 2040 Community Strategic Plan, Council will again consult widely with a significant range of stakeholders, industry, community groups, villages and individuals to ensure the plan meets the needs and aspirations of the community of the Dubbo Regional Local Government Area.
