Dubbo Regional Council winners at 2018 National Economic Development Awards
Dubbo Regional Council is celebrating a win in two categories at the National Economic Development Awards for Excellence held in Rockhampton Queensland last week.
The Economic Development Team took out the winning award for category Economic Development Initiatives – over 15,000 residents, recognised for the Ignite program.
Chief Executive Officer of Dubbo Regional Council, Michael McMahon said it’s a great achievement to be recognised at such a level.
“We are very proud to have received these award at a National level and it is a true reflection of the hard work and passion the team has for our developing region,” said Mr McMahon.
Dubbo Regional Council’s Director of Economic Development and Business Natasha Comber said Dubbo Regional Council’s Ignite Program is specially designed to support commercial and social activation across the Dubbo and Wellington Central Business Districts (CBD).
“The Program is about empowering and enabling people to make the CBD space their own through people geographically targeted, lighter quicker cheaper activity and activation techniques such as lighting, ambience, safety and security, access, stakeholder engagement, connection and collaboration,” said Mrs Comber.
The second award was in the category Economic Development Initiatives – rural and remote areas and recognised Dubbo Regional Council’s contribution to the Regional Platters campaign. This campaign is an agricultural businesses development and marketing program driven by Dubbo Regional Council in partnership with other rural and remote Councils in the Orana Region of NSW.
“The Regional Platters program aims to support agriculturally based businesses' develop their capacity to approach the issues that are preventing their growth and development, provide better more reliable income streams through business diversification and arm businesses with skills for better marketing and communication for their products to customers and business to investors,” said Mrs Comber.
Two staff from Dubbo Regional Council attended the two day conference and award ceremony in Rockhampton last week. The wider team will be presented with the awards on behalf of Dubbo Regional Council at the Ordinary Meeting this Monday.
