Macquarie Regional Library launches Food for Fines amnesty

Macquarie Regional Library will run a Food for Fines amnesty from 1 – 31 December 2018.

Kathryn McAlister, Manager of Macquarie Regional Library said the amnesty will offer a great opportunity for people to clear unpaid library fines by donating food to assist people in need.

“Throughout December, the library will waive overdue fines on items that have already been returned, in exchange for non-perishable food donations, including packaged and canned goods,” said Ms McAlister.

Donations will go to local charity organisations throughout the region. Donations will also be accepted from people who would simply like to give to a good cause.

“This will be a fantastic opportunity for members to return that overdue book, magazine, audiobook, CD, or DVD that is still sitting at home – even if it has been years!

“The month-long amnesty will give borrowers the chance for a fresh start while making a difference in the community,” Ms McAlister said.
