Wingewarra Street Redevelopment set to commence

Dubbo Regional Council will shortly recommence work on the redevelopment of Wingewarra Street with the construction program to start on Monday 19 March 2018.

Council’s Senior Project Engineer Stephen Howlett said the major project which started in the last quarter of 2017 will renew aging infrastructure between Darling and Gipps Streets.

“The construction stage which is about to commence includes the construction of the southern kerb and gutter, footpath and stormwater drainage,” Mr Howlett said.

“These improvements will mean better drainage for stormwater, improved pedestrian safety, improved on street parking and better amenity overall,” he said.

Work to be completed includes:

  • Construction of the southern kerb and gutter

  • Construction of footpath

  • Construction of stormwater drainage

  • Constructing tree pits to accommodate on-street tree planting in the southern side parking lane

  • Reconstruction of pedestrian islands at the Darling Street, Bourke Street and Gipps Street intersections

  • Watermain realignment to serve the Dubbo City Bowling Club and Paramount Tennis Club

Traffic management

Mr Howlett said the traffic management plan has been developed to minimise disruption but motorists are asked to exercise caution in the area.

“For the safety of road users and construction staff motorists are asked to heed warning signs and any reduced speed limits as well as following the instructions of traffic controllers,” Mr Howlett said.

“While the majority of works will be carried out with two-way traffic continuing under direction by traffic controllers short term interruptions will occur as services are laid across Wingewarra Street.”

Site compounds have been established at the intersection of Wingewarra and Bourke Streets and Council is continuing to liaise with residences and business in the affected area to minimise disruption.

This project is anticipated to take approximately 26 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
