Extraordinary Meeting of Council

Election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Dubbo Regional Council held an Extraordinary Meeting on Thursday 12 September 2019 at 5:30pm to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

This is the second election since Dubbo Regional Council was formed following the amalgamation of the former Dubbo City Council and Wellington Council in 2016.

Councillor Ben Shields was re-elected Mayor unopposed by fellow Councillors.

Clr Shields said he was pleased to continue leading this progressive Council.

“It is a great honour to be given the opportunity to lead this Council again and I want to thank Councillors for having faith in me. I am very proud of what this Council has achieved since being elected in 2017 but there is so much more we can do to ensure the Dubbo Region continues to grow and prosper,” Clr Shields said.

Following a 6/4 vote Councillor Stephen Lawrence was elected Deputy Mayor against incumbent Deputy Mayor Councillor Anne Jones.

“I am very honoured by my election to the position of Deputy Mayor of Dubbo Regional Council. I intend to use the position to take forward important issues effecting the region. Myself and the Mayor have pretty different philosophies but we actually work together well and that’s what council needs, an effective team approach. I really appreciate the trust my fellow councillors have shown in me.” Clr Lawrence said.

The current Councillors will be in office until the Council election in September 2020.
