SATIN FROCKS AND FIRST AID: DUBBO’S WARTIME WOMEN
Celebrate History Week at Dubbo Library with a free talk on the experiences of two local womens organisations that supported the Dubbo community during the Second World War.
On Wednesday 11 September 2019 at 5.30pm, Local Studies Officer of Macquarie Regional Library Simone Taylor will present a talk on the valuable role of the Dubbo Merrymakers and the Dubbo Voluntary Aid Detachment during the war effort.
“The presentation was inspired by a search of the library’s picture catalogue which holds some fantastic images of the Merrymakers.
“Upon discovering these images, I was compelled to research the lives of women during the era of the Second World War, particularly focusing on women on the home-front,” Ms Taylor said.
Participants will relive what life was like in Dubbo during war time, and discover the resilience and spirit of these local organisations in driving the community forward during a difficult period of our history.
