LOCAL ARTISTS INVITED TO ATTEND KINETIC ART COMPETITION WORKSHOP
Expressions of interest (EOI) for the Kinetic Art competition for the Old Dubbo Gaol Heritage Plaza project are still open, and local artists are being invited to attend a workshop that will allow them to gain a greater understanding of what is required for artists interested in submitting an EOI.
“We wanted to make sure that locals had the opportunity to have as much information about the project as possible, and that they could directly engage with our contractor installing the work. This ensures that anyone locally who would like more information or may be considering a submission has as much opportunity to be competitive,” said DRC’s Cultural Development Coordinator, Jessica Moore.
While the competition is open nationally, local artists are strongly encouraged to apply. The theme of the work is Community Country Connection – Finding Common Ground, and the artist is required to address a number of questions in their EOIs when applying.
“The workshops will cover things like the scope of the project, the background and goals, and to get a better understanding of the support that our contractor, UAP, will offer throughout the process. Other things covered include some of the technical information about what’s possible on the site, and what curatorial support will be offered to artists to turn their ideas into reality. We will also cover the selection panel, and what will be considered in review applications,” said Ms Moore.
The art competition was launched in December 2020 and invites Indigenous artists from all over Australia to submit an entry, for a chance to win a share of close to $90,000. Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) received funding from the NSW Government to undertake the tourism project, which is part of the $10 million Destination Dubbo: International Ready project.
This will be the only opportunity for artists to participate in the workshop, which is happening on Tuesday 19 January, 2021 at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) from 10:30am.
