The Wellington community and surrounding villages will have easier access to a number of Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) meetings, with Councillors resolving to hold at least three Ordinary Council meetings in Wellington each year. While DRC has been live streaming all of its meetings to the internet, having the meeting face-to-face in Wellington will give residents a better chance to meet Councillors in-person, while also providing more transparency.

The resolution to hold Council meetings in Wellington was passed unanimously after Deputy Mayor Richard Ivey put forward a motion to host three meetings a year for the remainder of the Council term. DRC Mayor Mayor Mathew Dickerson said this is something the Wellington community has wanted for a long time.

“By having meetings in Wellington, it reinforces to the community that this Council is committed to being inclusive and allowing better access to Council meetings. Having the Dubbo-based Councillors travel to Wellington for the meeting would improve inclusiveness, and I am sure all Councillors, myself included, are looking forward to the change,” said Mayor Dickerson.

While Committee Meetings will continue to be held in Dubbo, the first of the Wellington-based Ordinary Council Meetings will be held on 26 May 2022, in the Wellington Council Chambers. It will also be live-streamed to the internet, as all DRC Council meetings are.

“The infrastructure to host Council meetings already exists, with an accessible Council Chamber, chairs, and audio-visual equipment. Small upgrades will be required to host a live-stream; however, these upgrades are long overdue and budgeted for. The upgrades will also facilitate larger community groups to use the Chambers as a larger meeting room via a booking, ” said Mayor Dickerson.

The following dates have been agreed for the Wellington Ordinary Council meetings at 5:30pm in the Wellington Council Chamber:

·         26 May 2022

·         22 September 2022

·         25 January 2023 (to be confirmed whether this will be affected by Australia Day)

·         25 May 2023

·         24 August 2023

Access to the Council Chamber is via the front doors on the corner of Nanima Crescent and Warne Streets, Wellington. The dates of Council meetings after 24 August 2023 will be agreed at a future Council meeting.
