Draft Debt Recovery and Financial Hardship Policy

Background

Dubbo Regional Council recognises that it must have good policies and processes in place to ensure effective control over debts owed to Council, including rates, charges, interest and fees. Council has a responsibility to recover monies owing in a timely, efficient and effective manner to finance its operations and ensure effective cash flow management.

Council has an adopted Management Policy for Debt Recovery and an adopted Council Policy for Financial Hardship. The Office of Local Government recently issued Debt Management and Hardship Guidelines (PDF 418.7KB) under section 23A of the Local Government Act 1993, which Council must take into consideration before making any decisions relating to debt management and hardship.
