Compost Giveaway

From Friday 9 October to Sunday 8 November, we are giving away 1m3 of compost to residents of the Dubbo Regional Council Local Government Area. In 2025, the giveaway was extended to include Wellington Waste Transfer Station. This year, the 2026 giveaway will continue in both Dubbo and Wellington but we ask that residents wear enclosed shoes, bring a shovel to scoop compost and bring any necessary products needed to make their trip safe and fine-free including a tarp to cover loads if needed.

To access compost through our giveaway, visit Whylandra Waste and Recycling Facility during business hours and ask our weighbridge staff for directions or visit the Wellington Waste Transfer Station during business hours and ask our gatehouse staff for directions.

Residents must load the compost themselves with their own shovel into a trailer, ute or bag (one visit only, no return trips). Please read signage at the compost pick-up point before shovelling compost, especially mix suggestions for use on garden beds or for your lawn.

Good quality compost starts at home. This compost is an outcome of great use of residential green lid food organics and garden organics (FOGO) bin. You can help us keep the quality of the compost to industry standards by using the bin as much as possible for eligible food and garden organic products, and by keeping bins free of contamination.

Watch our video below to see how the compost is produced.

Commercial users are not eligible for the compost giveaway, but can continue to purchase the compost as usual.
