JOIN THE SUMMER READING CLUB FOR KIDS

Summer is just around the corner and so is the annual Summer Reading Club at the Macquarie Regional Library.

The Summer Reading Club is a fun, free reading rewards program for children and young people aged 5 to 15 years and is designed to help maintain literacy levels during the summer holiday period.

Children simply log their reading for the chance to win one of 12 prize packs and go into the draw to win one of four Nintendo Switch Lites.

“The summer school holidays are a great opportunity to continue to develop and grow a child’s literacy skills and their love for reading,” Macquarie Regional Library Manager Kathryn McAlister said.

The Macquarie Regional Library branches have an extensive range of books for children and young people as well as access to a large range of audio books via apps such as Libby, Borrow Box and IndyReads.

“Books can be borrowed free of charge with a library card and allow children to explore the wonderful world of books.”

There are two ways to register for the Summer Reading Club: simply download the Beanstack Tracker app or register online by visiting www.macquarielibrary.beanstack.com or visit your local library branch and receive your first printed reading log.

“To log reading sessions as part of the Summer Reading Club, children can either log them on the printed reading log available at your local library or via the Beanstack app. For every 20 minutes of reading a child completes, they receive a badge and each badge equates to one entry into the prize draw.”

“Reading challenges, such as the Summer Reading Club, are a great way to encourage children to keep reading during the school holidays. Reading is a skill for life and a great form of entertainment and relaxation,” Ms McAlister said.

The Summer Reading Club runs from 1 December 2023 to 29 February 2024.
