LOCAL HEROES SHINE AS THE FACES OF THE CBD CHRISTMAS FLAGS

The bright smiles of this year’s Local Heroes can be seen in the Dubbo and Wellington CBDs, with the 2023 Christmas flags hanging as part of the upcoming Christmas in the Dubbo Region campaign.

The CBD flags play an important part in the annual festivities, with faces of our Local Heroes making the colourful additions more meaningful and eye-catching. They also allow residents to celebrate the stories and amazing contributions and hard work these residents make to our community.

The Local Heroes were nominated by the community throughout August and, as seen in previous years, the nominees are a brilliant showcase of the diversity and hard work our community members contribute throughout the year.

Featured this year are faces you may see every week at parkrun and the Men’s Shed, to those making the magic happen behind-the-scenes for our local community groups and sporting clubs.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said it was important to acknowledge the individuals and organisations that have made a noteworthy contribution to the community in the areas of arts, education, health, volunteering, community connection, sport and more.

“Thank you to this year’s Local Heroes for all your contributions to our community. I look forward to seeing the flags around Dubbo and Wellington, and encourage everyone to shop local this Christmas,” Clr Dickerson said.

2023 Local Hero Farhana Khader’s flag hangs in the Dubbo CBD.

“I am very grateful. I did not expect at all to be nominated and I was very surprised and happy, and very grateful for my community and the Dubbo community who always welcomed us. For me, Dubbo is home. It’s beautiful. I feel like this is my home, I belong here,” Farhana said.

The Christmas in the Dubbo Region campaign will begin in the coming weeks, with a strong focus on exploring and supporting local businesses this Christmas.

There will be plenty for all to enjoy, and residents are encouraged to keep an eye on Council’s website and social media channels to stay up-to-date with the latest news and information.
