NEW RESIDENTS RECEIVE WARM WELCOME

New residents to the Dubbo Region enjoyed an evening of games, snags and the opportunity to speak with community and interest groups at Dubbo Regional Council’s (DRC) final New Resident Night for 2023.

Welcoming over 60 residents to the region, the event was held at the Dubbo Visitor Information Centre with representatives from community groups, sporting clubs and businesses in attendance to talk with new residents and encourage them to be part of our community through various groups and businesses.

Mayor of Dubbo Regional Council Mathew Dickerson was thrilled to welcome the new residents to the region and oversee some of the entertaining games.

“Everyone joined in the fun; it’s always great to see new faces, hear their stories, and learn about their reasons for moving to the Dubbo Region,” Clr Dickerson said.

“Macquarie Rotary’s barbecue was a huge hit, and it was fantastic to see so many local businesses and community organisations at the event to connect with our new residents and provide information about their services.”

Other official attendees at the event included Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders MP, Inspector Russell McArthur, Deputy Mayor Richard Ivey and Councillors Jessica Gough, Shibli Chowdhury, Matt Wright, Josh Black and Pam Wells.

Economic Development and Visitor Services Team Leader Tim Nichols said he was pleased to see the community come together to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere to welcome the new residents.

“It can be hard to meet people and make friends when you relocate. To see so many newcomers chatting to each other, being welcomed and made to feel at home in our region was heartening,” Mr Nichols said.

“DRC staff run these events several times a year to assist new residents in making the transition to their new home a little easier. By having community groups and services all together it is a great opportunity for new residents, and we hope it makes their move a little easier.”

DRC will hold the next New Resident event early in 2024. If you have recently moved or know someone who has, make sure to collect a copy of the New Resident Guide from the Dubbo or Wellington Visitor Information Centres or view it online at dubbo.com.au/live .
