ENTRIES OPENING SOON FOR YOUNG ARCHIE DUBBO COMPETITION

Calling all budding junior artists! The Young Archie Dubbo competition is opening soon, with children aged 5 – 18 invited to enter a portrait of a person who is special or someone who is known and plays a significant role in their life.

“The Young Archie Dubbo competition is a great opportunity for children and students in the Dubbo region to showcase their art in a public space and be able to view their artwork on the walls of the Western Plains Cultural Centre,” Dubbo Regional Council Education Officer, Rebecca Walker said.

Entries for the Young Archie Dubbo competition are open from 1 – 30 April 2023 and can be posted to the Western Plains Cultural Centre or dropped off in person at the Western Plains Cultural Centre or the Wellington Library.

“We are also encouraging schools to get involved and hold their own portraiture competition, from which they could select the top 10 entries to be submitted into the Young Archie Dubbo competition.”

Educational resources have been developed for teachers to help incorporate the portraiture competition into their lesson plans including lesson activities and syllabus links. These resources are available to download from the Western Plains Cultural Centre website.

“Artists can use mediums from pencil to mixed media, so they can really experiment in their art making practice.”

The Young Archie Dubbo competition will be on exhibition at the Western Plains Cultural Centre from 6 – 28 May 2023 with an official opening and prize announcement at 2pm on 6 May 2023.

“The Young Archie Dubbo competition is part of the family-focused activities in the lead up to the regional tour of the Archibald Prize which will be coming to the Western Plains Cultural Centre from 3 June – 30 July.”

There is to be one artwork per entrant into the Young Archie Dubbo competition and it must be no smaller than an A4 and no larger than A3. The artwork can be vertical or horizontal and is recommend to be on good-quality paper.

The competition will be judged by an ANZ representative and based on merit and originality. There will be one winner for each category and each winner will receive a prize provided by ANZ.
