COUNCIL WINS NSW COMMUNITY SPORTS AWARD

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has won the Sports NSW Community Sports Awards for the Local Council of the Year.

The award was in recognition for DRC’s commitment and contribution to the NSW Touch Junior State Cup Northern Conference as well as the excellent facilities DRC provides to the local community for sport, active recreation and healthy living.

DRC has hosted the Junior State Cup event for the past three years which brings approximately 10,000 people to the region in late February. Dubbo will once again host the event in 2026.

Mayor Josh Black said the Junior State Cup event is a great example of how collaboration between organisations can reap great rewards not only for kid’s sport but also the community hosting it.

“The NSW Junior State Cup event brings together Council, NSW Touch and Dubbo Touch Association, all working together to achieve a high-quality major sporting event.”

“As a Council we are proud of our involvement in this event. There are several areas of Council working behind-the-scenes that contribute to the event from visitor information services and events to groundskeepers and traffic controllers.”

“This award is a testament to all our staff involved, it recognises their commitment and ability to host this major event as well as showcasing our region to participants from across the northern part of our state,” Clr Black said.

The Dubbo Region is home to many amazing sporting facilities and recreational spaces that provide our residents with the opportunity to exercise or participate in sport.

“Receiving this award over other Council areas in the state demonstrates what we have available in the region and how we encourage an active healthy lifestyle is up there with the best in NSW,” Clr Black said.

DRC was nominated for the award by NSW Touch.
