2023 AUSTRALIA DAY AMBASSADORS

The ambassadors for Dubbo and Wellington’s Australia Day events have been announced.

Mayor of Dubbo Regional Council Mathew Dickerson looks forward to welcoming the 2023 Australia Day ambassadors to the region and invited the community to attend the ceremonies in Dubbo and Wellington.

“Everyone is invited to come along to the Australia Day events in Wellington and Dubbo to hear from our inspiring ambassadors, welcome our newest citizens to Dubbo and witness the Citizens of the Year Awards which promote and recognise outstanding examples of citizenship and achievement during 2022,” Councillor Dickerson said.

In Wellington the event will take place in Cameron Park on Wednesday, 25 January from 4pm – 8.30pm, starting with a twilight market from 4pm, followed by the Official Ceremony and presentation of Wellington’s Citizens of the Year Awards starting at 5.30pm.

The ambassador for Wellington is screenwriter and producer, Peter Herbert. Peter began his career writing and producing for Crawford Productions with television classics such as Cop Shop, The Sullivans, The Flying Doctors, and Acropolis Now. He wrote Con the Fruiterer for The Comedy Company and Effie in Acropolis Now. In 1991, he produced the inaugural Comedy Festival Charity Gala, which is now in its 27th year. Peter also produced The TV Week Logies in 1992 with Steve Vizard hosting. 

Peter is currently Head of Screen Business and Producing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School and teaches in the Master of Arts programs.

In Dubbo Australia Day events will start with a free BBQ breakfast in Victoria Park from 8am on Thursday, 26 January. The Official Ceremony will start at 8.30am including the presentation of Dubbo’s Citizens of the Year Awards and a Citizenship Ceremony, followed by a market from 10am.

Ambassador for Dubbo is David Hall OAM, Paralympic Gold Medallist, Former World Number 1 Tennis Player and ITF World Wheelchair Tennis Champion. During his 15-year professional tennis career, David won over 80 events across the world, including nine titles at the Australian Open and eight titles at the US Open.

He took home six medals at three Paralympic Games, including a Gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games in one of the most memorable games of wheelchair tennis.

David was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2000. He retired from the tour in 2005, before taking up employment with Tennis Australia for the following 10 years.

DRC are also calling for all food vendors who are interested in taking part in Australia Day events in Wellington and Dubbo to get in touch.
