ARTEXPRESS EXHIBITION RETURNS TO DUBBO

Western Plains Cultural Centre (WPCC) is pleased to present ARTEXPRESS, which for the first time has been curated for the gallery by local Visual Arts Teacher Tamara Lawry.

The popular exhibition presents exemplary artworks created by NSW students who completed visual arts for the Higher School Certificate (HSC) in 2022.

“The exhibition features a diverse cross-section of works by students from across NSW, including students from Dubbo and our region.

“The work of former St Johns College, Dubbo student Keira Bussey is included in the exhibition, which features the work of over 40 students,” said Visual Arts teacher Tamara Lawry.

The exhibition celebrates student achievement and connects communities through the Visual Arts.

Bodies of work on exhibition in ARTEXPRESS at WPCC, represent many of the expressive forms described in the Visual Arts syllabus - Drawing, Graphic Design, Painting, Printmaking, Photomedia, Designed Objects, Textiles and Fibre, Sculpture, Documented Forms, Ceramics, Time-based Forms and Collection of Works.

“We felt it was ideal to ask a local Visual Arts teacher to guest curate the exhibition for us, as highlighted in Dubbo Regional Council’s Cultural Plan. Tamara Lawry has many years of Visual Arts teaching experience as well as being a HSC marker. She has curated an exhibition that is relevant to our audience, and more importantly to our region’s schools,” said WPCC Curator Kent Buchanan.

“We encourage students, teachers, schools and families to come and view this exhibition. Not only will you see the quality outcomes of teaching and learning in the state, but also the concerns of the younger generation,” said Mr Buchanan.

The WPCC is one of many galleries across New South Wales, exhibiting ARTEXPRESS. Tamara Lawry has carefully selected bodies of work in the expressive forms that are reflected in the HSC Visual Arts syllabus.

“The works selected for the exhibition reflect our community and collections, and has been guided by our curatorial team to encourage student and teacher learning, through the engagement with the works on display.”

ARTEXPRESS will be held from 18 February to 30 April 2023, with the official opening to be held on Friday 24 February 2023 at 6pm. RSVP on 02 6801 4433 or email wpcc@dubbo.nsw.gov.au.
