CONSTRUCTION OF NORTHERN BORE FIELD PIPELINE

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has engaged Leed Engineering and Construction to undertake the construction of the Northern Bore Field Pipeline.

With a focus on drought security, the Northern Bore Field Pipeline project will extend Dubbo’s existing groundwater infrastructure by implementing a further 9km of pipeline and connect three new bore sites in North Dubbo with the John Gilbert Water Treatment Plant (JGWTP) in Macquarie Street.

It is planned for the new bore sites to be constructed as a separate project which will be run concurrently.

The proposed pipeline will ultimately connect with the previously constructed Dubbo Non-potable Water Pipeline on Brisbane Street and cross the Wambuul Macquarie River at Devils Hole Reserve in North Dubbo.

“The project is an important part of DRC’s commitment to delivering drought security projects within the Local Government Area (LGA),” Manager Strategy Water Supply and Sewerage Chris Godfrey said.

“Expansion of Dubbo’s groundwater infrastructure will ensure the needs of the community continue to be met in times of severe drought, while undertaking extraction of groundwater in a sustainable manner.”

“We have all experienced the effects of the worst drought on record, whether it be managing water restrictions, the loss of crops, businesses, access to supplies etc, so constructing new infrastructure like this pipeline and investigating alternative water sources is crucial to easing the demand on existing town water supplies sourced from river surface water.

“The work staff are doing across the Northern Bore Field Pipeline project means our region has better protection against dry times in the future than it did in the past,” Mr Godfrey said.

The Northern Bore Field Pipeline will be constructed within the road reserves of Bunglegumbie, Troy Bridge and Nulla roads as well as across Council owned land.

The Pipeline project will cost $3,300,000 and is funded under the DPE Funding Deed – Dubbo Drought Groundwater Infrastructure Project, which was entered into by Council on 20 December 2019.

Council operates 12 existing town water supply bores in Dubbo. With the construction of the proposed Northern Bore Field Pipeline, access to groundwater will be expanded to 15 bore sites.

Construction is proposed to start mid-August and is programmed to be completed late October, weather permitting.
