Street Lighting

Street lighting is a vital community asset that keeps the community safe and secure.
Street lighting within the Dubbo Regional Council local government area is installed and maintained by Essential Energy. However, Council pays the electricity and maintenance bills.
Essential Energy is responsible for the maintenance and billing of more than 160,000 streetlights serving more than 86 Councils across New South Wales and parts of Southern Queensland.
REPORT STREET LIGHTING ISSUES
If you notice that a street light has been damaged or needs a new bulb please visit Essential Energy’s online portal or phone 13 23 91 (General enquires).
By reporting broken or faulty streetlights you are helping to create and maintain a street lighting system that is reliable, energy efficient and safer for the local community.
LED STREET LIGHT REPLACEMENT PROJECT
Street lighting is a significant expense for Council, in the vicinity of $1.2 million each year in electricity and maintenance costs.
In 2020 Essential Energy in partnership with Dubbo Regional Council upgraded approximately 90% of the Dubbo Region’s street light network to new energy efficient LED technology.
The LED technology will provide a more reliable, better quality street lighting service, and deliver energy and maintenance savings to Council and the community of close to 50 per cent per year when compared to traditional lighting technology.
