HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE PUBLIC ART STRATEGY

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) invites the community to have their say on the proposed Public Art Strategy that is now on public exhibition.

The development of the Public Art Strategy has been in consultation with the community, cultural and arts organisations as well as Council staff as part of the 2022-2025 SPARC Cultural Plan.

DRC engaged public art and urban planning consultants, ArtScape to undertake the planning, consultation, design and development of the Public Art Strategy.

“The Public Art Strategy that has been developed proposes a comprehensive process and curatorial foundation to the development of public art programs funded by Dubbo Regional Council,” Dubbo Regional Council’s Cultural Development Coordinator Jessica Moore.

“The proposed Public Art Strategy offers a clear regional vision that can support private public art programs as well, to align with the public art strategy and create a holistic regional vision of public art.”

“In developing the SPARC Cultural Plan the community feedback demonstrated a desire for a revived program for public art to ensure they align with creative, economic, liveability and visitor attraction opportunities in our region.”

The Public Art Strategy aims to support Council’s 2040 Community Strategic Plan to promote and maintain the diversity of the region’s heritage, cultural services and facilities.

The Public Art Strategy also proposes to establish a Public Art Advisory Panel that can provide recommendations for consideration by Council regarding major public works undertaken by Council or on council land or facilities. This panel would also offer expert knowledge and insights for recommendations to help guide privately undertaken public art projects to best align with the interests of the community and the wider region.

“The strategy proposes to ensure public art projects are delivered in partnership with the community and supported by professional creatives and local collaborators,” said MS Moore.

Feedback on the proposed Public Art Strategy is invited until 5pm, Monday 6 November 2023 at yoursay.dubbo.nsw.gov.au. Following the public exhibition period a report will be provided to the December Ordinary Council meeting for consideration.
