Dubbo Regional Council is calling on the community to take part and provide their feedback on an accessibility trial to be undertaken across six of Council’s websites.

“We have a very diverse community, and we want to ensure appropriate services and facilities are accessible to everyone which is why we are undertaking this trial,” DRC’s Community Development Officer Seniors and Community Services Rusan Hill said.

An accessibility program will be placed on six of Council’s websites, including the YourSay website, Council’s Corporate Website and four of our service and facility websites from next week.

The program will be visible to the community in the form of the internationally recognised accessibility icon found at the bottom left of the screen.

“We encourage members of the community to jump onto the website, click the accessibility button, and see if this enhances their experience on our sites,” Ms Hill said.

The trial will be live on the websites for four weeks between Wednesday, April 3 and Wednesday, 1 May.

Once they have viewed the program, community members are encouraged to fill out the survey on the YourSay page to inform Council about their experience.

“We want to see if this tool, or a similar one, is useful for our community. The results from this trial will be used to determine if we add this service to the website or if we need to look at other options.

“We don’t want to implement a service that won’t be useful for our community, so that is why we are asking you to let us know how this affects your experience on our websites,” Ms Hill said.

The accessibility program has a number of features for community members to trial, including accessibility profiles for those with vision impairments, seizures and ADHD.

There is also the option to adjust content such as font size, line heights, colours and orientations such as animations and sounds.

The program will also translate the website into other languages, which includes five of the top languages spoken by community members living in the Dubbo Region.
