COUNCIL SEEKS COMMUNITY INPUT ON FUTURE OF POWTER PARK BMX TRACK

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) is inviting residents to provide their thoughts on the future of the BMX track at Powter Park, Dubbo.

Powter Park’s BMX track was first built in the early 2010s, with a makeover in 2014.

As the track consists of a heavy clay base, with various inclines to create the jumps and berms, overlaid with decomposed granite it is prone to erosion during heavy rainfall events and general wear and tear.

Currently, the track is closed and will require major repairs to reestablish it to a useable condition.

DRC Mayor Josh Black said community input is required to set the future direction of Powter Park.

“With the BMX track in an unusable state, we’d like the community’s feedback to guide what Council does at the park.

“Whether that be major repairs to the BMX track or utilising the material on site and redeveloping it into a pump track – we’d love to hear what the community has to say,” Clr Black said.

Manager Recreation and Open Space Ian McAlister said Powter Park has two viable options for its future direction.

“We can restore the BMX track to a useable, race-ready condition for approximately $100,000 to $150,000 with an annual maintenance cost of $25,000 to $30,000.

“Alternatively, we can convert it into a sealed pump track for approximately $300,000 to $350,000.

“We want residents to think about what will get more use and let us know via our YourSay page”, Mr McAlister said.

Residents can have their say by visiting the project’s YourSay page at yoursay.dubbo.nsw.gov.au/powter-park-bmx-track

Feedback is open now and will be accepted until 9am Thursday 28 August 2025.

Following the closure of the community consultation period, a report will be presented to Council with recommendations.
