COUNCIL TO UPSKILL NEXT GENERATION OF TRADESPEOPLE AND PROFESSIONALS

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has opened applications for 19 trainee, apprentice, and cadet positions and is encouraging prospective applicants to apply.

The positions cover a broad spectrum of interest areas, such as fleet maintenance, human resources, planning, tourism, and airport operations.

Successful applicants will learn on-the-job skills while completing a recognised qualification bespoke to their position.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said successful applicants will work alongside experienced and friendly Council staff and will gain vital skills to help kickstart their careers.

“This is a great opportunity for young people in the region to learn from skilled staff and set themselves up for an exciting future,” Clr Black said.

“Not only will the successful applicants be paid to learn and accumulate experience, but they’ll also get to see how their work, and the work of Council, benefits the local community and beyond,” Dubbo Regional Council Manager People Culture and Safety, Karen Robertson said.

“Investing in trainees and apprentices isn’t just about building skills, it’s about building a future generation of employees, and we want to ensure they are supported, respected and given the opportunities they deserve,” Ms Robertson said.

Council’s Chief Information Officer Matthew Green began his career as an information technology trainee and encouraged all young people to apply.

“I joined Council as an IT trainee and was immediately surprised by the knowledge and friendliness of my team members. They supported me through every step of the journey and set me up for a great career in IT.

“20 years later, I’m still working with Council as the Chief Information Officer”, Mr Green said.
