DUBBO REGION’S NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART ANIMAL SHELTER OPENS

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) Mayor Josh Black officially opened the new Dubbo Regional Animal Shelter today, marking the end of 10 months of construction.

The new state-of-the-art facility features 100 dog pens, including isolation and dangerous dog areas, as well as enclosures for 50 cats.

The shelter has been built to safely contain and control transmissible diseases and was designed in accordance with Council’s sustainable building policy which includes energy efficient processes and the use of renewable energy sources.

Mayor Josh Black said he was honoured to open the new shelter and was impressed by the facility’s design.

“It’s one thing to see this shelter in its design phase, but to be standing next to the fully realised building is something else. It is an incredibly impressive piece of infrastructure and is really class-leading in terms of NSW animal facilities.

“I’d like to thank everyone who was involved in this project. You’ve given the Dubbo region a fit-for-purpose facility that will provide to the community for years to come,” Clr Black said.

Manager Environmental Compliance Helen Eyre said the facility is transitioning to an operational state and will be servicing the region at full capacity in the near future.

“It’s an exciting time for us and we’re glad to be able to provide the services of the Dubbo Regional Animal Shelter to our growing community,” Ms Eyre said.

A community open day will be held for the new Animal Shelter on Saturday 17 May from 10am – 2pm.
