KEEP NSW TOUCH JUNIOR STATE CUP IN DUBBO

Following the success of the NSW Touch Junior State Cup Northern Conference in Dubbo over the past three years, preparations are now underway to bid in the upcoming tender process that will determine the host location for the next three-year (2027-2029) cycle.

This major event attracts over 10,000 visitors to the region each year in a generally quiet period and estimated to boost the local economy by $9.6M as well as supporting neighbouring towns and villages outside the Dubbo Region.

The NSW Touch Junior State Cup has boosted the economic growth in the region for the month of February by 7.4% compared with before the event was held in Dubbo in 2022.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said, as a region we want to retain major events like the NSW Touch Junior State Cup Northern Conference as the benefits to our economy are massive.

“We want this event to stay here in Dubbo for the next three-year contract.”

“Putting the Dubbo Region’s best foot forward is what we can all do to support this next tender process. It’s the team Dubbo approach that demonstrates to our coastal counterparts we can host major sporting events really well in the country.”

“Affiliates have shared that families are seeing significant price hikes when booking for the event making it tough for them to attend. We ask accommodation providers to consider the future of the event here and provide a fair deal for participants and their families,” Clr Black said.

Dubbo Regional Council attracts multiple sporting events throughout the year and whilst NSW Touch Junior State Cup is the largest they all support our thriving visitor economy.

“Multi-day sporting events such as the NSW Touch Junior State Cup provide a major boost to the local economy supporting a wide variety of local businesses from accommodation providers to hospitality venues,” Dubbo Business Chamber President Max Bowers said.

“It is great to see the region buzzing with people in what is generally a very quiet period for visitors to the region,” Mr Bowers said.

Dubbo Touch Association President Nic Grose said the club was really proud of what they had achieved over the past three years in being the host association for the major event and the collaboration with NSW Touch and Dubbo Regional Council.

“Junior State Cup is a great showcase piece to the thousands of visitors about how amazing Dubbo is and we are keen to retain this event for our region. It not only benefits businesses but provides lots of regional kids the opportunity to sport at the next level right here in the heart of the country.”

NSW Touch Junior State Cup Northern Conference will be held in Dubbo from Friday 20 February – Sunday 22 February at the Lady Culter Sporting Precinct.
