LAKE BURRENDONG ACCESS RECEIVES MAJOR UPGRADE

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has completed bridge reconstruction works at two crossings on Fashions Mount Road, significantly increasing vehicular accessibility and safety when travelling to Lake Burrendong.

The Burrendong Bridge No. 1 and No. 2 works saw complete replacement of the existing timber bridges with concrete infrastructure, allowing increased weight bearing capability and road width.

New road approaches were also implemented as part of the project.

Burrendong Bridge No. 1 and No. 2 were co-funded by the NSW Government with more than $3.2 million provided for the two bridges under their Fixing Country Bridges Program, as well as additional funding from Dubbo Regional Council.

NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison said these bridges represent a significant investment by the NSW Government.

“This will improve the safety, resilience, and efficiency of our local transport infrastructure and safe, reliable access to Burrendong Dam which is a significant local attraction.

“These bridges are more than just structures; they are vital links for residents of the Dubbo and Wellington area, visitors, businesses, and emergency services.

“The old bridges were made of timber but new ones made out of concrete should continue to provide important community connections for decades to come.”

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said the improvements along Fashions Mount Road were vital to increasing road safety and allow residents and visitors to continue to enjoy an important community asset.

“Lake Burrendong is an important part of our region, affording residents and visitors numerous recreational activities and a chance to unwind in our beautiful natural environment.

“I’d like to acknowledge and thank the NSW Government in co-funding these bridge upgrades and ensuring our community continues to have access to the lake,” Clr Black said.
