LIGHTS, CAMERA…WUJIANG!

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dubbo’s Sister City relationship with Wuijang, China, Dubbo Regional Council will host a Dubbo-Wuijang Film Competition.

The competition will be supported by a number of workshops for young budding filmmakers and facilitated by Dubbo Film Makers.

The workshops will teach young people from year four through to year 10 how to frame a scene, tell a story through a visual medium, and effectively edit footage on a mobile phone.

Participants will then use their newly developed knowledge to shoot a video and have it premiere at the Dubbo-Wujiang Film Competition screening on Sunday 26 October at 11am in the Blackbox Theatre at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.

Sister Cities Officer Daisy Wang said the workshops and film competition would allow participants to showcase what they love about Dubbo and catch a glimpse into another culture.

“The theme for the competition is ‘I Love Dubbo’, and once participants have gained invaluable skills from Dubbo Film Makers, they will go out and shoot their own video which shows what they love about their home city.

“In Wujiang, students will be doing the same thing: showcasing what they love about their home city. At the Dubbo-Wujiang Film Competition screening, we will get to see the creations of all participants.

“There are also prizes up for grabs,” Ms Wang said.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said the competition is a great way to learn about our relationship with Wujiang while engaging in exciting school holiday activities.

“Cinema is a powerful artform that brings people together from different backgrounds, cultures, and geographical locations.

“As we celebrate 30 years of our Sister City relationship, I’d encourage all young people to get involved, try your hand at filmmaking, and learn about Wujiang,” Clr Black said.

Entrants in the Dubbo-Wujiang Film Competition do not have to attend the school holiday workshops; however, it is highly encouraged.
